The difference to the 1874 map is amazing. The roads were already laid out in 1874, but most of the buildings in the 1889 map were built in the 15 years between the two maps.

#29 on the map is (Everett Hosmer) Barney & (John) Berry Company He had made his fortune in fire arms, clamp-on ice skates that sold all over the world! He worked on them for about 10 years before perfecting them & also made clamp-on roller skates! He made sails for sail boats, a device to help get people out of the ice who had fallen through in Winter! He was quite the inventor! He’s the one who left Forest Park...his & some others who were wealthy, donated land to create it! It was, supposedly, his son, George’s dying wish! Wonderful of them to think of others at such a time! The Barney’s mauseleom reads, “To Live In Hearts We Leave Behind Is Not To Die.”

Oh, sir, is Laurel Hill on there?? It might show where his mansion was! (Sadly, it was raized in the 1950’s to make way for Interstate 91.) That was donated to become a park for the public after the owner, Mr. Everett H. Barney’s son, George, passed away in his early to mid 20’s! It is said to be his dying wish in the Online Archives about what is now called Forest Park!

The Union Pacific Railyard is clearly visible in the NE part of town. One year later, in 1869, the transcontinental railroad would be completed in Utah connecting Union Pacific from Omaha to the Central Pacific (Sacramento).

OK. It's not St. George's Fort. It's Fort George. Engine house = fire station. Ordnance yard. No, they weren't firing guns & cannons from there. It's where they took cannon off & on ships. It's where they repaired the guns. Storage. No. 25 is St Paul's Cemetery, also known as The Old Burying Ground. The monument you see is the Sevastopol Monument honouring two soldiers from Halifax -- Parker & Welsford -- who were killed in the Crimean War. Riverboats? Agricola St. Agric-ola. Named after a Roman emperor who was big into farming. It's where we get the word "agriculture" from.

Huron is one of the 7 native nations. It is not a tribe. As a member of the Wendat (anglicized pronunciation Wyandotte), we are a tribe within the Huron nation. Highest population of native Americans in Michigan is the Chippewa, a tribe you didn't even mention. Please don't create historical videos without learning history.
